Speaker from Shell Co./O'Connell Oil
carne to speak about the plans to build a canopy over the gas pumps at the gas
station on the comer of Wilbraham/Bradley Roads. He brought new information
since the June meeting. Since the last meeting, the canopy will be reduced in
height and a planter will be also added.
A motion was made to accept
the new plans, discussion was done and all 20 members present passed it.
Speaker Denise Messina from
the "Restorative Justice Collaborative” came to our meeting. She
has been in mediation in the Spfld Public Schools for years. She has also been working in other
areas, teaching about the harmful effects that crime has on all of us. Denise
spoke about facing up to the crime and trying to work things out with the
victims, their families and the community. This project has been going on for
5-6 years now with great success.
We could have a Community
Accountability Board in our community. If anyone is interested you can call Mary

OLD
BUSINESS:
Dan Kelly's father passed
away. Our thoughts are with him and his family. Dan has been going down to the
16 Acres Center pulling weeds, watering plants and just general good clean up at
the Center. Thank You Dan!!
Summer Picnic at Camp
Wilder, Parker Street, August 18, 2001. Please call Jean Masse for more
information.
There was no interest for
the holiday Lights for this coming X-Mas season. Rep Paul Caron had come to a
meeting a couple of months ago and spoke about lights. No committee was
formed.
The X-Pub was given a
limited license and without notice of a meeting, the license commission granted
a full license. Peter Sygnator, President of the East Forest Park Civic
Association and other SUN members have been working with the FP Civic Assoc.
trying to get information as to what has been going on. Forest Park Civic Assoc.
is in opposition of a full liquor license.
A motion was made to support
the Forest Park Civic Assoc.. It was seconded, discussed and then passed by all
20 members. An Administrative sub-committee of the City Council would like to
add 2 more members to the current Commission. A motion as made to support 2 new
members being added to the License Commission. It was seconded and discussed and
then passed by all 20 members present.
Lemnos Lane has had some
city trucks working there after it was voted by the City Council not to pay for
the road. Karen Powell has taken pictures and will forward them if
necessary.
NEW
BUSINESS:
Joe Ricco from the Boston
Road Civic Assoc. has sent us a letter to talk about the boundaries. Peter Fett
talked about the Board discussing the By-Laws and our boundaries and then will
bring the information to the next meeting.

Camp Wilder on Parker Street
is for sale. There is 30 acres of property. The City has been looking to buy the
property and keep is just like it is.
Dare Officers carnival at
the 5 Towne Plaza, Sat. July 28, 2001. The hours are 10:00-3:00. Please
attend.
We were going to change the
16 Acres Civic Assoc. meeting from the Church in the Acres to the newly
renovated Mill Pond School. We will stay at the Church in the Acres because they
have offered it to us rent free. It was suggested that maybe our Civic Assoc.
would make a donation once a year to the church.
